So what is the result of What Remains of Edith Finch about?

Most simulators shoot, as it should, giving the player usually very meditative and aesthetic stories, which I then want to think about and figure it out. So it was with Dear Esther, so it was with Gone Home and FireWatch, and this year our court presented the What Remains of Edith Finch, which was immediately called the strongest philosophical statement of the year. And then I had trouble. Thoroughly P and Pans, I did not fully understand, but what the author wanted to say something?

A beautiful, melancholy story about a family where no one except the great -grandmother of the main character has died from old age during the great -grandmother. Edith returns to the house in which she spent her childhood, and experiences memories of the last days of his own relatives, immersing us in some unrealistically huge number of creative design decisions, which is why each story is completely different from another.

Looking the credits and wiping away the tears from the corners of his eyes, I suddenly realized … that I did not understand anything. How so? After all, such a pile of metaphors cannot be created just in order to dilute the viewer into emotions. This should have some kind of message! However, no matter how I tried, I never came to final opinion. And the thing here is this: each option does not fit into history entirely and works only in some of its aspects. And the options themselves look as follows (however, you will understand something here, most likely, only if you yourself have already familiarized yourself and have passed).

1) My option:

This is a story that you do not need to be afraid of some curses, constantly looking back, and just live.

Everything would be good, but, Edith, who seemed to have accepted this truth at the end of the game (it is not said about it definitely), still dies, and her great -grandmother Eddie remains the only one who avoided the “curses”, t.To. She stayed at home all her life and almost revered the horror that happened to her family with her paintings.

2) an option proposed by my friend:

Edi was the only one who did not run away from her life and fate, so she lived a long and happy life, and all her relatives, who tried to change something or escape from something, eventually died ahead of schedule. T.e. This is a story that, denying the inevitable, you make yourself only worse.

Suppose … But the same baby Gregori, who drowned in the bath, remains, his brother Gus, who simply did not like that his dad would marry a second time, and for this (according to the logic of the send) he was luggled with a hurricane, and a couple of the same dubious stories. Even if we take death in this case for a simple metaphor, it still comes out somehow cruelly, at least in relation to children who were just starting to think what they want from life, and obviously some punishment from above did not deserve.

3) Celebro option:

All stories are binded by the question: “What https://onlinepoker247.co.uk/casino-cruise/ remains after a person? Should it remain? And is one loss of one more loss, and the other smaller?”

It sounds cool if you say it by ear, but during the passage these questions did not arise in my head at all. And, except, perhaps, the last, they are so complicated, only to give out such a complex and diverse picture for their sake? They can easily answer “things, memory and yes, must”, without playing the game itself. As for the third, here the game is more likely to deceive your perception, because all stories are served for the player absolutely equivalent and have the same outcome, but is it not obvious that for person the loss of a mother, beloved great -grandmother or brothers left a greater mark in life than the death of the brothers and sisters of her grandfather, whom she did not even know personally? Transfer this to yourself and understand that such a question, when it concerns the real, past and distant past, usually does not even get up at all.

The argument is the symbolizing name (What Remains – what will remain). Maybe the truth was simple, like three kopecks, and only thanks to the visionary approach became like something more.

4) Wonder option:

“Edith Finch” teaches a bitter lesson of reconciliation with death, with the departure of those who can no longer be returned. But at the same time, she gives hope.

Everything would be fine, but the main character, in general, after the loss of all loved ones (which was not a seyminutic, should be noted) is not at all felt at all crushed by a girl who needs to learn to cope with grief. Opening the story of his family for herself, she is driven by a simple curiosity: is it worth being a fatalist, accepting fate (like Edi) or fighting her (like her mother, Dounced), or just score? Actually, at the end, the past releases her (I repeat – it seems, this is only according to my feelings and do not talk about it directly), and Edith is ready to live on and … dies. At eighteen. During childbirth. And what then the fuck can we talk about? Fatalism and only. Something is wrong again.

I think I could more or less clear what the problem of the second bottom of this story is. Ian Dallas himself (the main developer) himself is even more confused, saying the following:

“When I remember my life, moments usually come up in my memory when everything was not too good. <. >Often disasters happen in life, but then everything somehow normalizes “.

After all, a simple, but deep thought. And again fits into the shown only partly. Such a mess. So, I turn to you, the inhabitants of the blogs: what, in your opinion, is the story of the Finch, or which of the already proposed versions seems to be the most likely?

The best comments

Damn it. Why so few comments, why. I just postponed the gamepad with goosebumps, having got acquainted with this story thanks to PS+, and I have so many questions. This game is able to leave indifferent, so once again – why.
I don’t understand what the baby Molly died of, what actually happened to Barbara, why Walter lived for 30 years in the basement and what the hell was thundered and shook the ground (train shook. But why then the last days it stopped, and in the end he landed under him?), and finally, where Milton disappeared (his black and white paintings suggested that he went, so to speak, “into the picture” and unfinished Swan about him, but no).
I admit that after repeated passage you can see new details and figure it out. No wonder there is Achivka for the re -passage of the story of Kelvin.

Sorry, there will be spoilers, so only for past.

It seems to me that the meaning to a large extent is to observe precautions and safety measures instead of believing in curses. To be more attentive to each other, to support each other instead of being frivolous and careless. Well, that is, leave one in the bathroom or build rooms on the roof of the house, so that they get there along some fierce paths and steps a step away from the abyss-this is a kapets as frivolous. Build a chic swing near the cliff or teach the child to kill a deer, and then foam next to the carcass, scoring that the deer is still alive. What about closing the child to the key in the room so that it does not be naughty? A strongly depressing relative works in dangerous production? Trifles, his boss says that there is nothing to worry about. Finchi did not differ in special prudence, and therefore natural selection charged a severe tribute from them. And the house itself remained a monument to their recklessness.

True, many circumstances of death or the disappearance of relatives are not completely clear. I think that it is worth going through the game a second time to understand in more detail what could happen.

In fact, Edith Finch did not go away from his ancestors, having gone alone on a fairly unranian gestation for an introductory walk, associated with overcoming various kinds of obstacles in the form of stairs, narrow openings, lazes and other difficult things. This visit, among other things, was also extremely emotional, and all this, coupled, could not have been especially favorable for pregnancy. Who knows, maybe this trip of her has predetermined her early departure?

I think that this story does not teach any hope, but nevertheless it gives a clear awareness and the concept that life is finite. That all these photos and names that you can hear from your grandparents are more than real people with their experiences, cockroaches in their heads, joys and difficulties. Teaches acceptance and reconciliation with death. The fact that even if you have lost a loved one or left alone – life continues … until it breaks. The author of the blog correctly noticed, Edie’s grandmother elevated death to the gods and worshiped her, his mother Edith fought with death, Edith herself accepted death (perhaps even too early). I expressed a trivial thought, but to be honest, I don’t understand at all: why look for the second bottom in this story? She’s just what it is. And she has no result. There is just a story, and everyone will draw conclusions himself. I personally closer to the position of Edith. However, who said that you should not fight death. And Eddie, who worshiped death and completely lived the longest time. So maybe she is according to the results of the right? In general, there is no hidden meaning here, there are only a lot of stories about life and death. And then he himself will think to the best of his own experiences.

Well, the finale is clearly hinting that the son remained from Edith Finch. Not that this would answer any philosophical questions, but the question in the name of the game is fully answered. I do not think that there are some deep meanings except the history of the family, that she is dear to Edith, how was her great-grandmother’s dear, and that she does not want this story to end on her. And, not counting the general creativity of the approach to the game design, this is enough for the What Remains of Edith Finch to become one of my favorite games for me.

PS+ of course a good thing, but only for exclusives. In everything else, you can play PC, and, if desired, for free.

Well, it is clear that there is no such thing at all as “die of old age”, I just meant that she lived a long and quite happy life regarding the rest, while the rest went crazy, became paranoids, etc.D.

It seems to me that the plot of the game tells us about two things.

The first is that life is not so clear. We are sad and crying, rejoice and laugh, but this is the essence. And on the example of the Fincha family, we can see this.

The second is that despite our rationalism and skepticism, there is something that affects our fate. Each person has his own, more precisely, not so. Each person determines this.
